'Fatal' Attraction - The Famous King Hunt by Lasker

Walkthrough of the famous 18-move checkmate when Emanuel Lasker defeated George Alan Thomas in 1924.

The game I am about to go through is possibly one of the most famous chess games in history. Former world champion Lasker executed a beautiful and brutal Mate in 7 which involved a ruthless king hunt all the way to g1 and ending with a castle-mate (Kd2# was played though) (Eric would be so proud).

Opening

The opening was a dutch defense in which white was able to get a good position after the first 10 moves.

White is definitely much more active with 4 pieces aimed at the king, but after Bxe5 computer suggests complete equality. However, Lasker's opponent played a game losing blunder Qe7?? completely clueless at what was about to uncover on the board.

Can you try and find the forced mate in 7?

Mate Execution

The sequence begins with an incredible brilliant Queen sac with Qxh7+!! After Kxh7 White executes a double check with Nxf6+, forcing the king to come into h6 (Kh8 Ng6#). Then Neg4+ (very precise) to avoid the king escaping to h5. Once again the king is forced to g5. After h4+ Kf4 g3+ Kf3 Lasker played Be2+ Kg2 Rh2+ and Kg1. The black king got dragged mercilessly the whole length of the board, and he finally meets his doom with one of the prettiest and most rare checkmates you will ever see.

Checkmate!

In the game Lasker played Kd2#, but we all think in our minds that the game concluded with 18. 0-0-0# as that just looks prettier. I've attached the entire game for you to go through.
