I think the +/- score (the net score) is wrong. In the example given, the player has won 4.5 points and lost 5.5 points (out of 10). So the net is -5. Essentially, each win (1-0) adds +1 to the net; each loss (0-1) adds -1 to the net; and each draw (0.5-0.5) should add 0 to the net. I think it is wrong to add 0.5 to the +/- (net) total for a draw.

I think it's correct
I lost 9 matches (That means I have -9 points)
Won 4 matches (+4 points)
I tied 1 match (+0.5 points)

Doing the math:
-9 + 4 = -5
-5 + 0.5 = -4.5

I don't think you noticed that the number is negative
I did see it is negative, but I don't agree with counting 0.5 for the draw when you are trying to give the net score (+/-).

Another calculation is as follows:

Points you won = 4.5
Points you lost = 9.5 (these are the points your opponent(s) won)

So the difference between these is 4.5 - 9.5 = -5

Another way of looking at it is, let's take the following three cases:

Case 1) you win all 14 games: net score = 14 - 0 = +14
Case 2) you draw all 14 games: net score = 7 - 7 = 0
Case 3) you lose all 14 games: net score = 0 - 14 = -14

Clearly that is correct as case 3 is exactly midway between cases 1 and 2, which is as it should be.

With your system, counting 0.5 for a draw means your net score would be:

Case 1) +14
Case 2) +7
Case 3) -14

This doesn't make sense as case 2 net score is offset towards case 1, not at the midway point.

Another problem with your logic is that for a loss, you deduct 1 point, so why for a draw do you not both award 0.5 point AND simultaneously deduct 0.5 point (which cancel each other out)?
Also, consider these two cases.

1) Player A: W7, D0, L7. For this case, your calculation of +/- is 0
2) Player B: W0, D14, L0. For this case, your calculation of +/- is +7.

This different result doesn't make sense to me when both players have scored 7/14 tournament points.

In my logic I am giving 0.5
Since you didn't win but managed to draw
It could be good because you were lost or bad because you were won
And the system doesn't check how you were in the game
So in a practical way I chose how it is given in tournaments
