Random RK article with memes#2

some thoughts and memes around the variant racing kings

this is a bit old news but lichess banned timecontrols like 0+1 and 1/4 to be rated. they were really popular and i usually saw alot of arenas and gameseeks in the lobby every day. but bruh, literally the day after they banned it to be rated they all just vanished!

I feel almost no one plays those timecontrols anymore. instead its hyperbullet now which in my honest, controversial opinion they should ban for it to be rated too (or at least make a separate rating) buut that's a topic I don't wanna talk too much about here:)

honestly I've spent several hours studying random rk openings. especially i find kh3 and nxc2 the most fascinating. like there's just so many variations! with alot of them haven't been theorised nearly as much as kg3, or bd4 especially. also theres surprisingly many openings in kh3 and nx that almost nobody ever plays.

a good example is in nxc2, rxc2 the main moves are bd4 by a long shot. kg3 also somewhat frequent whilst continuations like kh3, nd4, bh4 and be1 are all very good too, I play all of those (except bh4[yet!]) and it's really fun, yet almost nobody even touches them.

i think its a bit sad that the top main moves are soo much more played then all the others.. like combined (similar story with lines in kg3 and bd4 opening too!) tho I can see why cuz the main moves do look very natural whilst especially like ..kh3 and ..be1 are both super sharp and difficult to get right o_O

((*kinda off-topic and I know its an old meme at this point but i'm not any creative ok))

i cant recommend them unless u actually are dedicated to study them a bit. but if u make the effort i can guarantee it will be worth it. u can get into some really interesting, unique and unusual positions when u play these "unsound", rare openings.

here's a study I made about some of my favourite -to -play sidelines in kh3

i genuinely believe that rk is the most enjoyable when you play several different openings than just like the exact same ones every single time lol. tho then again i can understand why some people chooses to only play the same because yea, u can get very good at that one 'special' opening and outprep people easily and like get quick wins.

imagine if u got qualified to a final and after soo many games ur still dead-tied scored with ur opponent and they decide u have to finish it all off with an armageddon. if u had the chance which colour would u had choosed and what opening?

i kinda cant imagine armageddon being that fair for rk cuz i belive in its nature is much more drawish than standard. like imagine the pressure for white when u HAVE to win lol. buut it'd be interesting and fun to try it for sure

@VariantsPenguin sent me this in dm which I also want to share here now as i have the opertunity^^
