Is chess fun?

Chess is a lot more fun for me than Ludo, Aggravation, or any number of games in which the dice (mostly, anyway) determine the winner or winners (depending on whether you are playing more than one game or playing "teams"). I do enjoy some such games at times, but chess is one of my favorite games out there. I like other games, such as Othello and Scrabble, though Scrabble can sometimes get on my nerves (have you ever drawn all consonants on the first play of the game, had to draw new letters and pass your turn, and then watched helplessly while your opponent played all letters and got a 50-point bonus in addition to the regular score?). I also enjoy Cribbage. I don't know very many other games which use cards, and I will probably never try Bridge. There was some other game I started playing as a teenager--Cathedral. That can be fun at times. Still, I'll take chess, Go, if I ever learn it, and Xiangqi (if I am able to learn it). I once owned a cheap Shogi set, but I couldn't find anyone to play AND there was one rule I didn't understand.
My mom's dad and my dad both tried to teach me how to play chess when I was 7 years old. I had to fill in the blanks later in life, as they had forgotten to teach me how to castle and they didn't know about en passant. They were innocent mistakes, but I was 17 before I could play a game with all of the normal rules plus some of the tournament rules AND could read modern notation in English. I guess it was too late for me to be a great player...however, I still try to improve my game. I don't know if I am stubborn or foolish (perhaps both). Anyway, I would like to open a chess club someday, so it seems reasonable to try to improve my game. I might never be an Expert, or falling short of that, might never be even a Class A player. I apologize for rambling...
Chess in tournoment = NOT FUN but for exersise thats FUN
